How the item gets to a buyer in your own country, and what they pay for it. Up to four services, priced
individually, with a handling time and an optional rate table.

Where to find it

In the listing editor’s Shipping Policy section, and in the shipping
policy editor. The two are the same block: on a policy it sets the policy, on a listing it overrides the
policy for that listing alone.

The four cost types

Type What it means
Flat You name the price. The same for every buyer, wherever they are.
Calculated eBay works the price out from the item’s weight and dimensions and where the buyer is. Fill in Weights & Dimensions or it cannot.
Freight For items too large for a parcel service.
No shipping – Local pickup only The buyer collects. No services and no prices.
The cost type decides which services are offered. The dropdowns list only the services
eBay allows for the type you chose, so a service that is there under Flat may be missing under Calculated.
Choose the type first.

The four services

Shipping Service – 1 to Shipping Service – 4, in the order the buyer sees
them. Under Flat, each service shows its delivery estimate and eBay’s own code —
Royal Mail 2nd Class (2 to 3 business days) [UK_RoyalMailSecondClassStandard] — so two
similarly named services can be told apart.

They fill in order. The second dropdown stays disabled until the first has a service, the
third until the second does, and so on. There is no way to leave a gap.
Field What it is
Cost (1st item) What the buyer pays to have one item sent by that service.
Cost (each additional item) What each further item adds, when a buyer buys several.
Cost (1st item) per Profile and Cost (each additional item) per Profile On a listing only: what the policy says, shown beside what you have typed, so you can see what you are overriding.
Reset Costs to Profile Costs On a listing only: puts the policy’s prices back, undoing your overrides.
On a listing, these prices are an override. The screen says so: You can edit the
domestic shipping cost(s) below just for this listing only. The policy is unchanged, and
Reset Costs to Profile Costs is the way back.

The rest of the block

Control What it does
First shipping service is free Makes the first service free to the buyer and disables its price. It cannot be turned on until a first service is chosen.
Domestic rate table One of the rate tables on your eBay account, if you use them, instead of the prices above.
Domestic handling time (in days) How long you take to dispatch. This is the promise eBay holds you to, so be honest rather than optimistic.
Handling cost Calculated shipping only: what you add to eBay’s calculated price for packaging.

How to set up flat-rate domestic shipping

  1. Choose Flat.
  2. Pick your usual service in Shipping Service – 1.
  3. Type its Cost (1st item), and the additional-item cost if you post several together.
  4. Add a faster service as Shipping Service – 2 if you offer one.
  5. Set Domestic handling time (in days) to what you can actually manage.
  6. Turn on First shipping service is free if the cheapest option is free postage.
  7. Save.

FAQ

Q: The second service dropdown is disabled.
A: Choose a first service. They fill in order.
Q: A service I use is not listed.
A: It is not available for the cost type you chose, or not on this eBay site.
Switch between Flat and Calculated and look again.
Q: Calculated shipping shows no price to buyers.
A: eBay cannot calculate without the weight and dimensions. Fill in
Weights & Dimensions.
Q: I changed a price on a listing and the policy did not change.
A: Correct — on a listing it is an override for that listing only.
Q: How do I stop shipping somewhere?
A: On the policy, with
Select Exclude Ship-To Locations.
