Shipping Policies

← All WonderLister user guides

A shipping policy — eBay calls it a fulfilment policy — says how an item gets to the buyer:
the services offered, what they cost, how long you take to dispatch, and whether you ship internationally.
The policies live on eBay; this page lists the ones an eBay account holds for one site, and adds, edits and
deletes them.

The Shipping Policies page

The account and site pickers, the toolbar, and the grid of policies.

Policies belong to an account and a site. The same eBay account has a separate set
of policies on every marketplace it sells on, so nothing is listed until both pickers are set. Changing
either picker empties the grid, because the rows on screen belong to the pair they were fetched for.

Choosing what to show

Control What it does
Select Account Which of your linked eBay accounts to read. Linked accounts are managed on
Manage eBay Accounts.
Select Site Which marketplace. The sites offered are the ones you configured on
eBay Sites.
Include counts also? Asks eBay how many active listings each policy is used by, and adds a
# of Active Listings column. Turning this on or off clears the grid, because the
rows already fetched do not carry the count.

The toolbar

Button What it does
Show Policies Fetches the policies for the chosen account and site. Disabled until both are chosen, and while a fetch is already running.
Add Opens the shipping policy editor on a new policy for the chosen account and site.
Edit Opens the editor on the ticked policy. Exactly one row must be ticked.
Delete Deletes every ticked policy, after a confirmation naming how many.
Delete all having zero listings Ticks every policy with no active listings and offers to delete them in one go. See the warning below.
“Delete all having zero listings” needs the counts. A policy’s listing count is only filled
in when Include counts also? was ticked for the fetch. Without it every row would read zero and the
button would select everything, so it refuses and asks you to tick the option first.

The columns

Column What it shows
Profile Name The name you gave the policy on eBay.
# of Active Listings How many live listings use it. Only present when Include counts also? is ticked.
Max Dispatch Time eBay’s handling time — the working days you promise between payment and dispatch.
Domestic Shipping Cost Type Flat, calculated, or freight.
Domestic Packaging Handling Costs The handling charge added on top of the carrier’s cost.
Domestic Rate Table The eBay shipping rate table the policy uses, if any.
International Shipping Type The same choice for overseas buyers. Blank means the policy does not ship internationally.
International Packaging Handling Costs The handling charge on international services.
International Rate Table The international rate table, if any.
Profile Description Your own description of the policy.
Policy Id eBay’s identifier. This is what a listing actually stores.

Every column heading sorts. Rows are ticked with the checkbox column, and more than one can be ticked at a
time.

How to use it

  1. Choose the account and the site.
  2. Tick Include counts also? if you want to know which policies are in use — always
do this before a bulk tidy-up.
  3. Press Show Policies.
  4. Add, Edit or Delete from the toolbar.
Calculated shipping needs weights and dimensions. If a policy charges calculated postage,
eBay works the price out from the parcel — so every listing using it must carry a weight and, for larger
parcels, dimensions. Those are in the listing editor’s
Weights & Dimensions section.

Permissions

The toolbar is only drawn for an account administrator, or for a staff account granted Manage business
profiles
. Anyone else can still choose an account and site and read the policies. Staff permissions are
set on Staff Accounts.

FAQ

Q: The grid is empty even though I have policies.
A: Nothing is fetched until you press Show Policies, and policies are
per site — check that the site picker matches the marketplace the policies were created on.
Q: Why does eBay call these fulfilment policies?
A: That is eBay’s own name for them in its API. WonderLister calls them shipping
policies throughout, because that is what sellers call them; they are the same thing.
Q: I changed the account picker and my rows vanished.
A: Deliberately. The rows belonged to the previous account and site, and showing them
under a different pair would be wrong. Press Show Policies again.
Q: Does deleting a policy here delete it on eBay?
A: Yes. Business policies live on eBay; this page manages them through eBay’s API. A
policy still attached to live listings cannot be removed.
Q: Where do I choose which policy a listing uses?
A: In the listing editor’s Shipping Policy section.
Q: The account has no policies at all.
A: The account may not be opted in to eBay’s business policies. Use
OptIn to Business Policies on
Manage eBay Accounts.
