Custom Fields (in the listing editor)

Custom Fields are extra pieces of information you keep against a listing that eBay has no
field for — a bin number, a purchase price, a supplier, a lot reference, a condition grade of your own.
They are private to WonderLister: they are never sent to eBay, but they can be searched, shown as grid
columns, exported to CSV and used in description templates.

This page describes the Custom Fields section inside the listing editor, where
values are put on one listing. The list of fields themselves is defined on the
Custom Fields page, and grouped on the
Custom Field Groups page.

Where to find it

Open a listing in the editor and scroll to Custom Fields, or click it in the editor’s
left-hand section list.

The Custom Fields section: pick a field, type its value, and press Select to attach it.

What is on this section

Control What it does
Select Custom Field Lists the custom fields you have defined. Choosing one reveals the value box beside it.
Enter Custom Value The value for the chosen field on this listing. Appears only once a field has been chosen.
Select Attaches the field and its value to the listing. The pair then appears below as a card.
The cards below One card per custom field already on this listing, showing the field name and its value, with a
Remove button to take it off the listing.
Manage Custom Fields Opens the page where the custom fields themselves are created, renamed and deleted.
Refresh Custom Fields Re-reads the list of available fields — use it after defining a new one, so it appears without reopening the listing.
The whole section can be hidden. If Hide custom fields is turned on in the editor
options in Preferences, this section is not drawn at all. Turn it off to get it back.

How to use it

  1. Define the field first if it does not exist — Manage Custom Fields,
    then Refresh Custom Fields.
  2. Choose the field in Select Custom Field.
  3. Type the value in Enter Custom Value.
  4. Press Select. The field appears as a card below.
  5. Repeat for as many fields as the listing needs.
  6. Remove a field with the Remove button on its card.
  7. Save the listing from the editor toolbar — nothing here is stored until you do.

FAQ

Q: Are custom fields sent to eBay?
A: No. They are WonderLister’s own. Use Item Specifics for
information eBay should receive.
Q: The section is missing from the editor.
A: The editor option to hide custom fields is on. Turn it off in
Preferences.
Q: I created a field but it is not in the dropdown.
A: Press Refresh Custom Fields. The list is read once when the
editor opens.
Q: I typed a value but it did not stick.
A: Typing is not enough — press Select to attach the field to the
listing, then save the listing.
Q: Can I put custom field values into a description?
A: Yes. Description templates can carry tags that are replaced with a listing’s
custom field values — see Description Template Tags.
Q: Can I set a custom field on many listings at once?
A: Yes — use Bulk Edit from the Listings toolbar, or
update them from a CSV file.
