Writes eBay’s category tree out to a file, so you can read it, search it in a spreadsheet, or match your own
product data against it away from the application.

No screenshot. This is a console-style utility screen rather than one of the routed pages the
capture run walks, so no picture of it is taken. It is a short form and a button; everything on it is
described below.

What it produces

A file listing eBay’s categories for a marketplace: each category’s name, its eBay category id, and where it
sits in the tree. The id is the part that matters — it is what a listing actually stores, and what tells two
categories with the same name apart.

What to choose

Control What it does
The site Which marketplace’s tree to export. Every marketplace has its own, and they genuinely differ.
The destination Where to write the file.
Start Export Runs it.
A category id from one marketplace does not exist on another. If you are mapping products to
categories for several sites, you need one export per site.

What it is useful for

  • Bulk listing from a spreadsheet. A CSV that creates listings needs category ids; this is
    where to get them.
  • Checking a category exists before building a large batch around it.
  • Mapping your own product classification onto eBay’s, once, in a spreadsheet.

FAQ

Q: The export looks out of date.
A: It writes out the tree WonderLister holds. In the desktop application, run
Refresh Categories first.
Q: Which id do I put in my CSV?
A: The leaf category — the one with nothing below it. eBay does not accept listings
in a category that has children.
Q: The file is very large.
A: eBay’s tree runs to tens of thousands of categories. Filter it in a spreadsheet to
the branches you sell in.
