Translate

← All WonderLister user guides

Translate rewrites a listing’s title and description from one language into
another, so the same item can be listed on an eBay marketplace whose buyers do not read the language you
wrote it in.

Where to find it

It sits inside the Account & Site section at the top of the listing editor, directly
under the account and site pickers. It appears only when translation is available for the listing.

The Account and Site section, which contains the Translate controls

Translate lives with Account & Site — the marketplace decides which languages are worth offering.

What is on this section

Control What it does
From Language The language the listing is written in now. Clearable, and strict — only the languages the service supports are offered.
To Language The language to translate into. This list stays empty until a From Language is chosen,
because the pairs are fixed: each source language has its own set of targets, and picking the
source is what decides them.
Translate Translates the title and the description and puts the results into the listing. Disabled until
translation is possible — both languages chosen, and something to translate.
It overwrites the title and description in the editor. The translated text replaces what
is in Main details. Nothing is saved until you save the listing, so if the result is not
what you wanted, leave the editor without saving.

How to use it

  1. Finish the listing first. Translate what you actually intend to publish — translating
a draft and then editing it means editing in the target language.
  2. Choose From Language.
  3. Choose To Language from the list that appears.
  4. Press Translate.
  5. Read the result in Main details before saving. Machine translation
is a good start, not a finished listing — product names, sizes and condition wording are where it
    goes wrong.
  6. Save the listing.

FAQ

Q: The To Language list is empty.
A: Choose a From Language first. The target list is derived from
the source.
Q: The Translate button is greyed out.
A: Translation is not available for this listing yet — usually because one of the
two languages is not chosen.
Q: I do not see the Translate controls at all.
A: They are drawn inside Account & Site and only when
translation is offered for the listing. Set the account and site first.
Q: Can I undo a translation?
A: Not from inside the section — it replaces the text. Leave the editor without
saving and the original is untouched.
Q: Does it translate item specifics?
A: No. It translates the title and the description. Item specifics are eBay’s own
values and have to be chosen for the target marketplace.
