For an item specific that takes one answer — Brand, Colour, Condition — this is the
dropdown that picks it from the values eBay recommends for the category.

Where to find it

In the listing editor’s Item Specifics section, on each single-value specific.

What is on it

Control What it does
Show <name> values Starting with A first-letter filter — 0 to 9, then A to Z. It appears only when eBay offers more than a hundred values for that specific.
The value dropdown The values themselves. Where the letter filter is in use the label changes to Showing <name> values Starting with <letter>, so you can see what you are looking at.
When the letter filter is shown, nothing appears until you pick a letter. That is
deliberate: a dropdown of several thousand car makes is not a list anybody can use. Pick the first
character and the values appear.

How to fill in a specific

  1. Find the specific in Item Specifics.
  2. If a Starting with dropdown is shown, pick the first character of the value you want.
  3. Open the value dropdown and click the value.
  4. Save the listing.

FAQ

Q: The dropdown is empty and there is a Starting with box.
A: Choose a letter first. Nothing is listed until you do.
Q: My value is not offered.
A: The list is eBay’s recommendation for the category. Where eBay allows a free
value, the specific gives you a box to type in instead of this dropdown.
Q: The specifics are wrong for my item.
A: They come from the eBay category. Check
Select Category.
Q: This specific takes several values.
A: Then it uses
Select Item Specific Values, which is the multiple-choice
version.
